L-DOPA
Yes it’s dope, yes it can be an addiction but still it’s completely harmless. Physically ‘L-dopa’ is a neurotransmitter and is used as a medicine against Parkinson disease. So like in the film ‘Awakenings’ it’s merely a kind of ‘moving-therapy’.
Dj L-dopa has been playing for ten years now. Starting from ‘LVC’ in Leiden up to weekly & monthly clubnights in the ‘Melkweg’ (Dance-Arena, Sabotage, Knockout & Fuel), ‘Paradiso’ (Drum ‘n Bassline, We Love 80's, SpearS & Noodlanding) and late ‘Club RoXY’ (Flow) in Amsterdam to the festivalcircus of ‘Pinkpop’, ‘Lowlands’, ‘Dancevalley’, ‘Drum Rhythm’, ‘New Frontier’, ‘Mysteryland’, ‘Crossing Border’, ‘Freezeflight’ and ‘Fast Forward’.
Playing in Berlin: the ‘Red Bull Music Academy ’99’ or a special drum ‘n bass-set in London’s Bar Rhumba d&b-clubnight ‘Movement’. And even a dj-set as support-act for David Bowie in Paradiso and Vredenburg (Utrecht) in 1997.
Next to these venues he has been dj-ing in different clubs around Holland from ‘Effenaar’ (Eindhoven) to ‘Nighttown’ (Rotterdam) and from ‘013' (Tilburg) to ‘Tivoli’ (Utrecht), Mazzo (Amsterdam). During summer on the beach at Club Solaris playing anything in 8 hour sunsets while people chill and praise the sungods.
He hosted a radioshow on Amsterdam underground radiostation ‘Static’ for years lateron ‘Elementaal’, once a week on VPRO (national) Radio3.
The last two years he already released three mixtape-doublepacks: ‘Midnight Cowboyz/Drill Instructions’, 'Autumn Blessings' , and lately 'Peace a Rock'. This mixtape-triology tries to create a soundtrack for the mind and make a difference.
Always working on changing the beat in his sets he uses a lot of different vibes and sounds: hiphop, drum ‘n bass, reggae, house, deep soul grooves, or some other funky tribes. L-dopa's style can therefore simply be described as jungle: colourful and exciting.
